Staggered and Ortholinear Configurations

The AMJ40 offers flexibility with its two main configurations. Staggered layouts come with 4 possible layouts, while Ortholinear layouts offer 2. While the PCBs remain the same for both configurations, the plates differ to accommodate the specific layout needs. This ensures that users can choose the setup that best suits their typing habits.

Additional Parts for Kit

To complete your AMJ40 build, you’ll need additional parts such as stabilizers, LEDs, switches, and a mini USB cable. The Staggered layout requires 42 switches, while the Ortholinear layout requires 46 switches. A variety of switches are available for purchase, including Cherry MX Clear Switches, Gateron Switches, and more.

Stabilizers

Depending on your chosen layout, you’ll need specific stabilizers. Layouts 1 and 3 require two 2u stabilizers, while layouts 2 and 4 need one 6.25u stabilizer. Layout 5 requires one 6u stabilizer, and layout 6 needs one 2u stabilizer. Stabilizers are available here: Cherry Stabilizers and Transparent Stabilizers.

LEDs

The Staggered layout requires 42 LEDs, while the Ortholinear layout requires 46 LEDs. You can find the necessary LEDs here: Switch LEDs.

Keycaps

Looking for a keycap set that fully covers the AMJ40? These DSA PBT Keycaps have all the keys needed for any of the 6 layouts.

Assembly Option

For those who prefer a ready-to-use keyboard, there’s an assembly option available. This service costs $30 USD and requires you to order all necessary additional parts. You’ll also need to specify which of the 6 layouts you prefer.

Flashing the Keyboard

The AMJ40 can be flashed using tools provided by AMJ. However, do not use the included firmware files, as they are for the v1 board with a different bottom row layout.
