Are they north facing???

Switches do not have "north facing" or "south facing" orientation. They are capable of being used with both kinds of keyboards.
The direction of the LEDs is dependent on their orientation on the PCB. However, if the PCB has north facing LEDs, the switches are simply oriented with the LED holes facing upwards, while if the PCB has southfacing LEDs, the switch is rotated so that the LED hole faces downwards. Therefore the direction of LEDs does not need to be taken into consideration when buying switches.
The only time would would need to take LED direction into consideration would be when looking for keycaps, because certain keycaps may cause conflict with south facing LEDS (Cherry profile) and also certain keycaps do not allow south facing LEDS to shine through that well due to the placement of the translucent legends, since north facing LEDs/keycaps are the norm.
What color are the bottoms? Are they the black ones, or the same milky white color?
